I just wrapped up a Silverlight application for one of my customers.  Silverlight and WPF are the way of the future for Microsoft software development.  And I must say it sure seems like a good direction.

For the non-technical people out there, Silverlight is Microsoft's answer to Flash.  For users it provides rich client web-based applications that rival their windows desktop applications.

For software developers there is a huge advantage over Flash.  Anyone that has ever used the Flash Action Script developer tools know how hard the tools are to use.  Additionally, the Action Script libraries leave a lot to be desired.  BUT with Silverlight you use WPF and your favorite .Net language (mine is C#).  This opens up much of the .Net Framework, plus with WPF UI design is very quick and easy.

The only advantage Flash has right now is that it is loaded on over 95% of the computers on the internet.  I do think Silverlight is going to be adopted very quickly as developers start to work with it.

So welcome to the future!  As always, I would love to hear your comments.
